Crater survives miscues in win ANTIOCH, Calif. It wasnt the prettiest of wins for the Crater High girls basketball team, but it did move the Comets into the quarterfinals of the 56-team West Coast Jamboree. Second-ranked Crater, playing in the 16-team, open-division bracket, dominated every phase of the game Wednesday but turned the ball over a season-high 20 times in a 60-44 win over J.F. Kennedy. "We just werent concentrating on what we were doing," said Crater coach David Heard. "Most of the turnovers were unforced." The Comets, who play Bishop, the No. 1 team out of San Diego, today at 8:30 p.m., stormed out to a 35-18 halftime cushion and were never seriously threatened despite their miscues. Jody McLeod led three players in double figures with 16 points and grabbed a team-high 19 rebounds as Crater held a comfortable 52-35 edge on the boards. "Jody played really well against their big girl," said Heard, referring to J.F. Kennedys 6-foot-6 Mya Chatman. "We really did a great job on the boards." Chatman finished with 14 points for J.F. Kennedy, which shot just 16 of 62 from the field and connected on 11 of 29 from the free-throw line. Janelle Sapienza scored 14 points to go along with eight rebounds for Crater, now 7-1 on the season. JF KENNEDY (44) Mar. Stewart 4, Mel.
