New Drive Test Center opens today The new Medford Drive Test Center is scheduled to open today and should relieve the frustration of motorists forced to endure longer waits for licenses and paperwork recently. At 1174 Progress Drive, Suite 103, off Biddle Road, the test center for the state's Driver and Motor Vehicle Services will open at 8 a.m. in the newly renovated complex. The building formerly housed Medford 4 Cinema. The new center - a 5,600-foot portion in a 15,000-square-foot building - will house the former Rogue Valley Mall Express office and the Medford Drive Test Center, both of which were closed during construction. "The environment is more conductive to taking driver license knowledge test and (it) is centrally located," said Kirk Brust, DMV South Region manager. The new office will be open Monday through Friday and offer express service on Saturday. A receptionist will be on hand to greet and "pre-screen" customers by directing them to the right area in the new office. The new location also features an improved motorcycle and commercial license testing area. A lease agreement was approved in February. The move cost DMV an estimated $190,000. The agency is paying $10,000 in monthly rent for the new site, which also will cover common-area maintenance. DMV will occupy approximately one third of the building. No new tenants for the remaining sites have been announced. In 1998, Cinemark closed and sold the theater to Biddle Road Leasing LLC. Cinemark relocated to 15-screen Tinseltown in 1997. The $2 million renovation project was designed by Medford-based Batzer Construction Inc.
