Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 11, 2002 Top-ranked Honkers trip up Pirates LAKEVIEW — It didn’t take long for the Skyline Conference to unveil a marquee volleyball match. In a contest between playoff contenders, Lakeview, the No. 1-ranked team in the state, downed Phoenix, 25-14, 26-24, 25-19. The Honkers, who have six of eight starters back and five seniors, got off to a good start behind the serving of defensive specialist Liz Albertson. She served 12 straight points in the first game. "She is a server who places the ball real well," said Lakeview coach Barry Shullanberger. "I think Phoenix was a little nervous and tight and had trouble passing the ball." During Albertson’s service run, the Pirates had two passing errors and three hitting errors, said Shullanberger. Lakeview had four blocks, including three by Megan Albertson, during the same stretch. Phoenix led for most of Game 2, but freshman Anneka Tucker brought Lakeview back, serving out from a deficit of 24-22. In Game 3, the Honkers had only one missed serve. Phoenix trailed 23-15 until Tiffany Ross served four straight points. Lakeview, 3-1 overall, got 17 kills and seven digs from Jess Childress and 18 assists from Megan Albertson.
