District attorney to review Applegate homicide Jackson County's district attorney say he needs up to three weeks to look at evidence surrounding the death of an Applegate man before the case can be presented to a Jackson County grand jury. John Alan McBeth, 35, was shot and killed inside his Hogan Road home in November. At the time, he was reportedly arguing with an unidentified Medford man. Detectives remain unsure if a criminal act was involved, and have not ruled out the possibility of self-defense or accidental shooting. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department investigated the case, but no charges were filed against the unidentified man. No arrests were made or suspects named. District Attorney Mark Huddleston said he wants to personally review the case file before the matter is presented to a grand jury. Huddleston said his work could take up to three weeks. A grand jury had been scheduled to review the evidence the first week of December. The proceedings were delayed because a lead investigator was out of town, and were tentatively re-scheduled for mid-December when Huddleston decided to review the case. The shooting took place at 9:26 p.m. on Nov. 20 At least three people were inside the home when the shooting took place.
