Monday Sep 25, 2017 at 10:26 AM Sep 25, 2017 at 10:26 AM National Merit semifinalists The following Rogue Valley students are among 16,000 semifinalists in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. They will compete for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. Semifinalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. ASHLAND HIGH — Henry W. Cobb, Clover Hall, Dylan Kistler, Claire E. Pryor, Julian R. Rice, Alexander Webb. NORTH MEDFORD HIGH — Taoyi Li. ST. MARY'S SCHOOL — Olivia M. King, Michael P. Miles, Caleb Ringger. Local student on Johns Hopkins Dean's List Baltimore, Md. — Audrey Hazel, of Talent, was named to the Dean’s List for academic excellence for the spring 2017 semester at Johns Hopkins University. To be selected for this honor, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in a program of at least 14 credits with at least 12 graded credits. Hazel is the daughter of Tom and Felicia Hazel and attended Phoenix High School. Hazel, who is majoring in molecular and cellular biology, will graduate in May 2020.
