Stamp Out Hunger food drive is Saturday Posted May 10, 2018 at 5:20 PM Updated May 10, 2018 at 5:20 PM The 26th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive will take place on Saturday, May 12, with postal letter carriers collecting nonperishable food donations from their customers. The donations will go directly to Jackson County food pantries operated by ACCESS. Non-perishable food donations should be left next to mailboxes on Saturday, May 12. Suggested food items include nonperishable proteins like tuna, peanut butter and canned chicken, as well as canned fruits and low-sodium soups and vegetables. Toiletries are always welcome,as they are not covered by food stamps, says ACCESS Nutrition Director Philip Yates. All day on Saturday, volunteers will help unload the collected food from the mail trucks to be delivered to ACCESS. ACCESS distributes the food to 24 emergency pantries in Jackson County. Last year, letter carriers collected more than 47,000 pounds of food in Jackson County. For more information see accesshelps.org or call 541-779-6691.
