The Black Tornado (9-4 SOC) is in third place, one game behind Roseburg (10-3) and one ahead of Grants Pass (8-5). North (15-8 overall) visits Grants Pass in the regular-season finale Thursday, while Roseburg is at top-ranked South Medford. If North wins and Roseburg loses, they would be tied for second and have a playoff. Advertisement If North loses and Roseburg loses, the Tornado would be tied with Grants Pass for third and would host the Cavemen in a playoff. "We have our eyes on second place," North coach Tim Sam said after the win over Ashland. The Grizzlies seemed to have their eyes on an upset, bolting to an 8-1 lead at the outset. "They came out very fired up and got us back on our heels a little bit," said Sam. He called a timeout to talk about executing on offense and defense and being more productive on the boards. It paid off in a 33-point advantage from the mid-first to the mid-third quarters. "Ashland gave us a good feel for what a playoff game would be like on the road," said Sam. "I’m proud of how the kids responded after being down early." Ryan Lucas had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead North, and Ben Running contributed 14 points and seven assists. Senior post Seth Bauman had a double-double for Roseburg (16-7, 10-3 SOC) with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Jay Slezak scored 16 points for the Comets, hitting four 3-pointers.
