Then and now Jon Galfano returns to his guitar Jon Galfano traces his musical roots back to the farm fields of Wisconsin where he began piano lessons at the age of 7. Later, when the British Invasion of rock 'n' roll performers moved onto the American music scene, Galfano found himself at his local music store with a guitar. Galfano and his band The Stormchasers will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Louie's Bar and Grill, 41 N. Main St., Ashland. Band members include Brad Beach on bass, Pete Miller on drums and Sher on percussion. The group will present classic rock from The Beatles, Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Eric Clapton, among other recording artists. Advertisement It was while Galfano was studying at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, that he began his career as a solo performer on guitar and piano, and he spent the 1970s and early '80s on the road performing around the Midwest. His first album, "Appearance," came out in 1982, along with a single he co-wrote as a tribute to the World Series-bound Milwaukee Brewers. "Brew Crew" became a popular song on the local charts in Wisconsin. Galfano released a New Age album, "Gem Mystique," in 1997, then followed it with three solo piano recordings: "Galfano Piano" in 2002, "Pacific Point of View" in 2003 and "Going Home" in 2005. For his new CD, Galfano returned to his guitar to record a collection of works titled "Simple Man" that was released in November of 2006. "Simple Man" was recorded at the East Ashland Lane Studio in Ashland. The 13 tracks on the CD include reflective acoustic pieces such as "Dakota Train" and "The Long Goodbye" to rock riffs such as "Southwest Highway" and "Blue Monday." There also are a couple of ballads on the CD featuring Galfano's vocals, including "Sleeping Her Life Away," co-written with Sharon Laura Williams, and "Forever," a song he first recorded in 1982.
