November 02. 2014 2:00AM Merna Faye Schaffer Merna Faye (Mullen) Schaffer, age 97, of Medford, Ore. went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 28, 2014. She was born May 3, 1917 in Rawlins County, Kans. to Arthur James and Rachel Evelyn (Chance) Mullen. She migrated west to Oregon during the Dust Bowl era when she was 18 years old. She married Paul W. Schaffer who preceded her in 1980. Merna had a pioneer spirit, strong work ethic, and a positive attitude. Helping family was always an integral part of her life. When she was younger she worked seasonally at Modoc Fruit Co. packing pears. Prior to that she worked as a butcher, cleaning and processing chickens at Half Moon Processing Plant. She was well known for growing, harvesting, and selling walnuts. Merna was an active member of the First Church of God and taught many Sunday School classes. She is survived by daughter, Beverly Jean Weaver of Talent, Ore. in addition to five grandchildren, Jeff Lisac, Gina Taylor, Rachel Ledesma, Paul Ledesma, and Scarlet McConahie. Her seven great-grandchildren include, Amanda Weidow, Jeffrey Lisac Jr., Jessica Stapp, Logan Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Jordan Lien, and Vance McConahie; and six great-great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Church of God, 2000 Crater Lake Ave. Medford, Oregon 97504. Her Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at the First Church of God. Merna was laid to rest beside her husband, Paul and grandson, Brian Lisac in a private family ceremony at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford, Ore.
