Look for fantastic fractal imagery by Martin Ball at Art du Jour Gallery, a music and art fair at Pear Blossom Park and art exhibits and live music at the Holly Theatre. The 2014 Watercolor Society of Oregon exhibit and woodcuts by Portland artist Liv Rainey-Smith will be displayed at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center. The venues will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, for the monthly event. Many of the artists will be on hand to demonstrate or discuss their work. Ball uses computer-generated fractals to create complex images that can appear realistic and abstract. He blends his multi-layered compositions with Photoshop and other image-editing software. He gives only suggestive titles to his artwork because he wants viewers to find their own meaning and interpretation. Ball’s work could be considered visionary art inspired by spiritual and transcendental experiences. Ball also will perform his music — a blend of flute, didgeridoo and electronic beats and soundscapes — at the gallery's Third Fridays reception. The gallery's artists will present work in the theme of Edgy Art. Look for work by Gayle Gray, Penny Simmons, Dixie Kinser, Dodie Hamilton-Brandon, Susie Lee, Pat Blair and Millie Clarke at Art du Jour, 213 E. Main St. Call 541-770-3190 for information. Art du Jour members aren't the only ones going edgy this month. The second annual Edgy in October — a month-long event held throughout the Rogue Valley — will continue with music by Ashland hard-rock band 100 Watt Mind from 4 to 6 p.m. at Pear Blossom Park, between Fourth and Sixth streets. Medford rock band The Seaons will play from 6 to 8 p.m.  The festivities include artists' demonstrations and interactive art from 4 to 8 p.m. Look for Brooke Nuckles Gentekos yarn sculpture, synthetic dreadlocks by Whitney Rolfe and Kristina Smith, airbrushing by Christoph Sharp, art therapy by Delaine Due and glass blowing by Chris Hurley. Other artists include David Irwin, Diana Trygg and Cammy Davis. Also look for face-painting by Amber Bishop and Jana Esp and actors in costume from Randall Theatre's haunted house production.  An exhibit of pen-and-ink drawings titled "Trippin' the Light Fantastique" by Rolfe and photography by Tom Glassman will be displayed in the lobby at the Holly Theatre, 226 W. Sixth St. Live music will include guitar duo Cole Cullen and Steve Elmer from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday in the Holly's auditorium, Ol' Mount'n Due will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., and The Foxfire Trio will perform from 7 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 18, singer and songwriter Delta Halo will perform from noon to 2 p.m., Ball will perform from 2 to 4 p.m., country singer, songwriter and guitarist Darrin Wayne will play from 4 to 6 p.m., and Ol' Mount'n Due will play from 7 to 8 p.m. Artwork from the Edgy Art Contest will be displayed from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Woolworth Building, 20 N. Central Ave. People's Choice awards will be presented on Friday. Mixed-media by Davis, photography by Jon Vait and a slideshow and live music by Ted Killian will be presented from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Sparta Building, 12 N. Riverside Ave. A trolley will be available to shuttle visitors between events. About 80 watercolor paintings selected from the 2014 Watercolor Society of Oregon will be displayed through Nov. 14 in the main gallery at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 S. Bartlett St. A reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be treats from Harry & David's Country Store,  Rogue Creamery and wine.  Southern Oregon artists represented in the exhibit include Linda Boutacoff, Betty Barrs, Lane Hall, Linda Hagen, Marilyn Hurst, Cecilia Pestlin, Peggy Stermer Cox and Eve Withrow.  Portland artist Liv Rainey-Smith's "Beasts of Lore," an exhibit of woodcut art prints, will be displayed through Nov. 21 in the community gallery at the art center. Inspired by illustrated books from the Middle Ages cataloguing real and mythical animals, the artist mixes folklore and European and Japanese printmaking techniques to create images on paper and animal parchment.
