Mail Tribune 100: April 29, 1916, continued The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 30, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 30, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News April 29, 1916 Editor's note: There was no April 30, 1916, paper. WEBER AND FIELDS AT PAGE THEATRE Weber and Fields, seen previously at the Page theater in "The Best of Friends" yesterday in forty-five minutes of hilarious fun, are excellently placed in a super Keystone that gives Lew Fields opportunity for his very excellent facial play. Almost everything happens from a piano dropping three stories into a girls' bathing pool to Weber toying splashingly with a hot-air blast and a bowl of face cream. That a child's rights should come before the happiness of its parents is the theme of Mary O'Connor's stimulating play, "Cross Currents," in which Helen Ware is starred, with the support of Courtenay Foote and Teddy Sampson. SOCIETY Last Thursday evening Talisman lodge, Knights of Pythias, entertained their ladies and a few invited friends at their castle hall on Main street. Mr. Hemstreet gave a very interesting exhibition of telepathy and mesmerism. For several years Mr. Hemstreet traveled extensively and entertained in a professional way with his hypnotic power and mind-reading exhibitions before settling near Medford. All who were fortunate enough to see and hear his demonstration Thursday evening were highly pleased with it. At the close of the entertainment light refreshments were served by the committee and after a time social, get-acquainted pleasantries all went away feeling that the prevalent Pythian spirit of entertainment is very commendable. The Roosevelt Parent-Teachers' circle met on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The program opened with folk games by the pupils of first to fourth grades, which were very interesting. Three songs were very creditably rendered by the pupils of the sixth and seventh grades, showing very careful training by Mrs. Galligar, principal of the school. A very able and instructive paper was given by Mrs. Chisholm on the subject of "Home Industry." Mrs. Pierson gave a very interesting paper on "Habits," referring to children under school age. The last meeting for the year will be held on May 18, the day of the art exhibits.
