South falls shy in soccer EUGENE � The South Medford girls soccer team won the shots on goal battle but couldn�t find the net in a 3-0 non-conference loss to North Eugene on Wednesday. The Panthers, playing without sweeper Kathleen Narus who is still recovering from a 12-stitch gash in her knee, outshot the Highlanders 13-10 but couldn�t adjust to an unfamiliar astroturf field. Julie Elliott scored two goals for North Eugene while Stephanie True added another. Elliott staked the Highlanders to a 1-0 lead at the seven-minute mark of the first half with a goal from 20 yards out. The lead stood until the 15-minute mark of the second half when True punched in the second score from about 18 yards out and Elliott added an insurance score just four minutes later. The Panthers fell to 6-6 overall but remain 4-1 in Southern Oregon Conference play. Cross Country COOLIDGE, SAWYER TAKE FIRST � Trevor Coolidge continued his dominance. The St. Mary�s senior easily outdistanced the competition to pick up his sixth victory of the season. Coolidge finished with a time of 17 minutes, 26 seconds. On the girls side, St. Mary�s sophomore Leah Sawyer finished first with a time of 20:39 to complete the Crusdader sweep. It was Sawyer�s fourth victory of the year.
