No fooling: Cable rates rise April 1 The cost of cable television is going up for Rogue Valley residents next month. Charter Communications has announced price hikes ranging from 70 cents to $2.25 a month starting April 1 depending on locations and service levels. The standard basic rate of $12.04 a month in Phoenix, Talent, Jacksonville and parts of Jackson County outside the Medford city limits will go up 70 cents a month, Charter regional manager Tom Coleman said. Expanded basic service, now $18.41 in those areas, will go to $20.66. Seven new channels will be added to the service. In Central Point, Eagle Point, Gold Hill and White City, basic service, now $23.03, is going to $24.98. In the Ruch/Applegate area, basic service goes from $24.95 to $26.90. There's no change in rates now in the city of Medford, although a price hike is coming in the next couple months, Coleman said. "We have not had an increase in two years," he said. "The cost of programming has gone up." The increases in part will pay for a new phone system and faster service to cable customers, he added.
