Timothy James Sheeler, 33, and Adrian Paul Thornton, 29, were indicted Jan. 9 in connection with the November 2014 burglary of a home in the 2600 block of Hillcrest Road. A 2008 Kia Sedona van and a 2008 Saturn Astra sedan were stolen, along with jewelry, electronics and a safe. Police estimated the value of the property taken from the home at over $30,000. Both vehicles were later recovered. Sheeler also pleaded guilty to a first-degree forgery charge stemming from an attempt to pass a $20 counterfeit bill. He was referred to drug treatment court as part his plea in both cases, court records show. Additional charges of first-degree theft and two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle were dismissed. According to a Medford Police Department search warrant affidavit, an off-duty detective reported seeing Thornton driving the Astra, which the detective didn't yet know was stolen, about four hours after the burglary was reported Nov. 1. Detectives later found two gold necklaces taken in the burglary in Thornton's possession when they contacted him Nov. 6 during a traffic stop; he claimed Sheeler had given him the jewelry, the affidavit said. A safe taken in the burglary was later recovered from the home of one of their associates, who told police Sheeler and Thornton had offered to sell him an 80-inch television taken from the Hillcrest Road home, according to the affidavit. Police later developed enough evidence to put Sheeler and allegedly Thornton at the scene of the burglary, and arrested Thornton Jan. 5. Sheeler was arrested Feb. 20, jail records show. Sheeler was the victim of a 2010 shooting in Medford that resulted in the attempted murder conviction of Grants Pass resident Charles Alexander White II.
