Program on religion's role planned at SOU A program on understanding the role of religion in society is set for noon Wednesday at Southern Oregon University. Professor Prakash Chenjeri will discuss religion's role from a philosophical perspective and the religion's place in human culture in the Rogue River Room at Stevenson Union. Religion is regarded as a fundamental human experience by a vast majority of the world's people, but it means many things to many people, and its precise meaning is often obscure. Chenjeri will examine the way the world's religions influence philosophical discourse, and the role religions play in social and cultural systems. The one-hour presentation is part of SOU's brown-bag lunch and lecture series. Beverages will be provided free of charge. Bring your own lunch. Chenjeri has taught in SOU's philosophy department for eight years. He conducted his doctoral work at Bangalore University in India. His research interests include philosophy of science and the interface between science and religion. He has been a member of several professional organizations, including, the American Philosophical Association, Center for Theology and Natural Sciences, and the American Association of Philosophy Teachers. In addition, he is also a member of the Ethics Board at Providence Medical Center.
