Shane Michael Cardoza, 34, was lodged Friday in the Josephine County Jail after being apprehended by employees at an Albertsons supermarket in the 300 block of Beacon Drive, Grants Pass police officer Kevin McCage reported in a news release. Police say Cardoza and another man were inside a Grants Pass home at about 8:30 a.m. Friday when employees of a local auction arrived. The house was set to be auctioned Saturday, police said. Both men fled the home, with Cardoza running into Albertsons. He tried to hide a loaded firearm on a store shelf but was caught moments later, police said. The second suspect left the area driving a Ford Aerostar van. He is described as a white male adult, and was last seen wearing a light-colored jacket. Cardoza was lodged in jail on charges of first-degree burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of burglar tools and second-degree theft. Bail was set at $56,000. Cardoza has a long criminal record in Jackson County, including prior convictions for second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, unlawful use of a vehicle and methamphetamine delivery and possession.
