Pirates stay perfect in Skyline play PHOENIX If Phoenix is destined to play close games all season in the Skyline Conference, its fortunate to have a veteran floor leader to handle the ball in the closing minutes. The Pirates, getting sterling play from senior point guard Chelsi Clark, held off Hidden Valley 52-47 Friday to improve to 3-0 in league and 6-4 overall. Phoenixs three conference wins have been by 3, 3 and 5 points. Phoenix had a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs stepped up their defensive pressure and forced three turnovers two led to baskets and the other to foul shots to make it a six-point game. Thats when Clark took over, handling the ball against Hidden Valleys press and coming through at the foul line. She made 3 of 4 free throws in the waning moments. "Some of the decisions she made at the end of the game helped us, too," said Walker. "Shes just doing a great job. There were times she could have pushed it all the way up the court, but she pulled it back and took care of the ball without me having to tell her."
