Ashland edges North in boys tennis ASHLAND Ashlands No. 5 singles player, Jonathan Willing, proved to be the difference in the Grizzlies 5-4 Southern Oregon Conference boys tennis victory over North Medford Tuesday at Hunter Park. The Black Tornado and Grizzlies were knotted 4-4 when the sophomore Willing defeated Thiago Rocha, 6-2, 6-2, in what proved to be the decisive match. "Hes (Willing) a tenacious player," Ashland coach Dick Streng said. "He doesnt have the strokes or the flair but hell hit every ball. He plays with a lot of heart." The Black Tornado won three of five singles matches. Norths Andre Neilson and Tyler Wilson captured the top two singles spots . "I was surprised with the first and second singles," said Streng. "I thought we would prevail. I thought we would be strong at the top." Ashland was victorious in three doubles matches, but not without a determined North effort.
