Wednesday scrap yard fire was third in the past year Updated: Sep 28, 2022 01:00 PM A A Ten to 12 RVs were destroyed at the location, which is “a known property to law enforcement” Clean-up is underway at a scrap yard where a fire broke out early Wednesday morning near Court Street and Central Avenue in Medford. It was the third fire at the location in the past year, officials said. [Jamie Lusch / Mail Tribune] The Medford Fire Department responded early Wednesday morning to a report of an RV fire in a vehicle storage lot behind 1021 N. Central Ave. Upon arrival, crews found multiple RVs burning and the fire was spreading to other vehicles quickly, according to fire officials. Once firefighters got into the lot and established a water connection, the fire was controlled quickly, according to Medford spokesperson Kristina Johnsen. Firefighters estimated that 10 to 12 vehicles were destroyed or severely damaged during the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation. The property is currently being utilized by Northwest Scrap, which stores impounded RVs. This was the third fire reported at the property within the past year, “and is a known property to law enforcement,” Johnsen said. Medford fire and Medford police have been working closely with the property owner to identify ways they can reduce fire risk in the area and address the complaints related to the property, Johnsen said. The property is posted as no-trespassing but sustains forced entry regularly through surrounding fence, she said.
