Challengers zip past SCL antagonist, 61-20 Cascade Christian avenged one of two Southern Cascade League losses in a big way Friday afternoon when the Challengers smashed visiting Gilchrist, 61-20, at Grace Christian School. The victory locked up second place for the Challengers (21-2, 7-2 SCL), who close out regular-season play against SCL winner Lost River at home this afternoon. Cascade lost 46-44 Feb. 6 at Gilchrist when its starting unit was glued to the bench and the Grizzlies stepped to the line for 31 free throws. This time, the Challengers played solid defense, while Christine McCandless and Natalie Peck combined for 18 first-half points as Cascade took a 37-11 advantage. "We didn't press at all tonight," Cascade coach Loren King said. "With a game (tonight) we decided to see if we could get it done by taking care of the basketball and working hard on (halfcourt) defense." Peck paced the Challengers with 15 points, Shannon Tait added 13 and McCandless chipped in with 12.
