The Pirates (15-6 overall) defeated Cascade Christian, 25-9, 25-7 in the title game. Phoenix took out Brookings in the semifinals, 25-15, 25-11 after completing pool play with wins over Glendale and Douglas. "The girls took a real businesslike approach to the day," said Phoenix coach Tom Murphy. "They just went out and got the job done." Setter Kelsey Russell played a solid floor game, while middle hitter Tiffany Ross and outside hitters Joni Mahon and Cassie Tolman also provided a lift. Defensive specialist Jennifer Dunlap and middle back Tiffany McCarty also contributed. "Without those girls (McCarty and Dunlap) setting things up, we don’t get things done very well," said Murphy. Cascade Christian (7-5, 4-2 SCL), which beat Douglas in the semifinals, 25-21, 25-18, and didn’t lose a game until the finals, got a strong effort in digs from Janee Johnson and a consistent performance from the service line from Natalie Dicus. LOST RIVER TOURNAMENT — At Merrill, Chiloquin knocked off Butte Falls in the finals of the six-team event, 25-12, 25-19. Butte Falls had defeated Lost River to reach the finals, 22-25, 25-12, 15-9. In pool play, the Loggers (10-2 overall) split with Chiloquin and Hosanna Christian. Asia Million, a junior outside hitter, led Butte Falls in three categories with 20 kills, 11 digs and nine aces. Junior middle Sarah Matthews had five blocks, and senior setter Krystle Rowley notched 24 assists. Skyline A League PROSPECT 13-26-25-25, NORTH LAKE 25-24-23-17 — At Silver Lake, Prospect improved to 4-2 in the Skyline A League Southern Division behind strong serving. Candice Bennett led the way, going 15-for-15 at the service line and also contributing five kills for the Cougars, who are 5-3 overall. Other top servers were Amber Blythe, 13-for-13, and Missy Larson, 9-for-9. Hillary Lewis chipped in five kills and 10 digs, Alicia Pace 10 digs and Candice Govenor four blocks. TRIAD 19-25-25-25, NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN 25-22-21-23 — At Klamath Falls, Julie Loop had 22 service points with six aces and at least 20 assists in a losing cause for New Hope Christian. Bethany Hashek added eight kills for New Hope (2-9, 0-7 Sky A).
