Roseburg tips No. 2 Cavemen boys, 50-47 ROSEBURG In a game that could go a long way in determining who wins the Southern Oregon Conference boys basketball title, Roseburg was goal-oriented. "Our goal was to just play good defense and really try to keep from turning the ball over," said Indians coach Mike Pardon. His team was successful, limiting second-ranked Grants Pass on both the inside and perimeter en route to a 50-47 triumph Friday. It was the first loss of the season for Grants Pass (18-1) and left the two teams tied for the SOC lead at 8-1. Roseburg is 14-4 overall. "They have a lot of weapons," said Pardon. "Theyre so explosive in their press, and they can do so many things to you. We feel very fortunate to get the win. We knew theyd make a run, and they did. They had an opportunity to win and we held them off." The Indians led by nine entering the fourth quarter, but Grants Pass never got closer than the final three-point margin. The Indians held reigning SOC player of the year Ian Elseth, a senior post, to three points in the first three quarters. Similarly, they limited the Cavemen to 15 of 55 shooting, including 3 of 20 from 3-point range. Brennan Garrelts scored 16 for Roseburg, and Joe Newton had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
