Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend July 24, 2005 Mustangs drop a pair to Roseburg ROSEBURG — The Medford Mustangs’ quest for a state-playoff berth took a hit Saturday with a pair of Area 4 losses to Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s. Roseburg swept both ends of the American Legion AAA doubleheader by 2-1 scores. Medford (31-12, 6-6 Area 4) now must win three of its final four games to qualify for one of the league’s three playoff berths. Mustang pitchers limited Dr. Stewart’s to four hits in each game, but several costly walks led to Roseburg runs. The eight-inning nightcap ended in the bottom of the frame when Douglas High product Tony Bellando led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and went to third on a fly out to right field. Advertisement Aaron Buxton then dropped down a squeeze bunt which Mustang reliever Ryan Odell fielded and flipped to catcher Justin Meyer who couldn’t apply the tag in time to get Bellando at the plate. Kyle Williamson had two hits, while Jared Adamson went 2-for-4 and drove home Medford’s only run when his second-inning single scored Meyer. Medford starter Marcus James struck out five in seven innings. In the opener, the Mustangs managed a first-inning run on an Abe Eubank RBI single to go ahead 1-0. But Medford’s two hits during the inning would be its only of the game as Roseburg hurler Ryan Robinson held the visitors in check the rest of the way. Leadoff walks to Bellando in the third and fifth innings led to both Roseburg runs. Left-hander Cole Rohrbough gave up one earned run in defeat for the Mustangs. Medford hosts a league twin bill with current Area 4 leader Eugene (8-6) on Monday, then closes out the regular season with a doubleheader at Grants Pass on Wednesday. Roseburg closes the season at 9-7 in Area 4 play.
