Comets rip top Northern California team PLEASANTON, Calif. � The Vallejo High girls basketball team came into Thursday night�s game against Crater ranked No. 10 in Northern California and had won the Monticello Empire League the past two seasons. But that didn�t faze the Comets, who blasted the Apaches 73-44 in the opening round of the Amador Valley Classic. Amy Denson had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Sarah Pool registered 13 points and 10 assists as the Comets, ranked No. 1 in the Oregon coaches poll, ran their record to 3-0. "We didn�t know too much about them other than they had a bigtime recruit," Crater coach David Heard said. "But our press got to them early, they had a tough time handling our zone (defense) and we dominated the boards."
