Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 10, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 10, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News May 10, 1915 UNITED STATES LIKELY TO SEVER DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH GERMANY WASHINGTON, May 10 — Late today Secretary Bryan said he had not received any official communication from the German government at Berlin on the Lusitania, and that he regarded Count Berstorff's communication this morning as an expression of regret on his own behalf. President Wilson locked himself in his study in the White House in the forenoon and gave strict orders not to be disturbed. For two days he has consulted no one, event he closes members of his official family, preferring to work out in solitude a policy he may submit tomorrow to his advisers. He studied documents and papers on the law of the case today, and was believed to be mapping out the speech he is to deliver tonight before the gathering in Philadelphia of several thousands of newly naturalized Americans. PREDICT RETURN OF REVEREND DODGE The Rev. C.E. Dodge, who left Medford two months ago, will return to this city Wednesday, accompanied by his wife. This has been "revealed" in the latest prophecy, and was received by members of the congregation at their last meeting, held in a home on West Fourth Street. At the same time word was received that the "non-believer" who was telling tales on the cult founded by the Rev. Dodge would be punished. The congregation were also told the name of the "non-believer." Though without a pastor, the flock holds regular meetings in homes of the converts. The sect predicted that Roxy Ann would erupt and destroy Medford, and last week received a message in a somewhat indefinate form that a holocaust was due to devastate the city and valley. THROWING SANDWICH COST TEN DOLLARS Ernest Womack, a young man, was fined $10 and costs this morning on a disorderly conduct case. Young Womack is alleged to have thrown a sandwich at the Community day dinner at the City park Saturday noon, that struck a woman visitor. She remonstrated, whereupon the young man is said to have used insulting language. Womack was dismissed upon the promise that he would apologize to the woman and secure her permission for remission of the fine. The affair occurred with a friend asked Womack to "throw him a sandwich." Womack did, the sandwich hitting the woman. This was the only incident approaching disorder during the day.
