The crash happened at about 10:45 p.m. in the 5300 block of the busy thoroughfare that runs parallel to Highway 62, according to Medford police. Medford police responded after receiving a report of the struck pedestrian and found the man had died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 1997 Chevrolet C-150, remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators, police said. The identities of those involved will be released once next of kin has been notified, police said. The Serious Accident Reconstruction Team responded to investigate the crash. Crater Lake Avenue was closed between Vilas and Corey roads during the investigation, according to Medford police Lt. Kerry Curtis.  Police say the man was in the roadway at the time of the crash, but they don't yet know why. "We're really not sure," Curtis said. "We're still trying to determine what the position of the pedestrian was in the roadway." The investigation will be forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for review.
