Raider Softballers Cage Lions Brown, Aitchison Help SOU Roar Past Patten College ASHLAND - The Southern Oregon softball team mixed 21 hits with more solid pitching from junior all-star Brandi Brown in a 8-0 and 13-3 non-conference doubleheader sweep of Patten College at University Field on Wednesday. Brown (14-4), the pitcher of record in all 18 SOU contests this season, yielded only one hit and allowed only two baserunners in Game 1, and she joined freshman Haley Varley, junior Latisha Inget, junior Angie Chaplin and sophomore Lisa Aitchison with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate. The contest ended due to the eight-run rule with no outs in the bottom of the fifth when Brown scored the team's eighth run from first base on an Aitchison double to deep center field. Brown then equaled career-highs with three hits and three RBIs in Game 2, and she registered the victory in relief of starter Seanna Doyel when SOU rallied from a 3-1 deficit with a 12-run fourth inning. The school-record frame featured seven hits and four Lion errors and was keyed by a bases-loaded Inget triple off the left field fence and a two-run Chaplin double down the left field line. The game ended after a scoreless Patten fifth inning. The sweep allowed Southern Oregon to improve to 8-0 over two seasons against the private college from Oakland, Calif. The Raiders, winners of 13 of their past 15 outings, return to action Saturday in Portland with a Cascade Conference doubleheader at Concordia that starts an eight-game road swing spanning the next two weekends.
