Myrtle Point slips by Phoenix PHOENIX - Erika Nay scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half to rally Myrtle Point to a 45-33 victory over Phoenix in non-league girls basketball Tuesday. The Pirates dropped their third straight game and fell to 1-5 on the season. "The overall story was we didn't shoot the ball very well, and we weren't trying to penetrate the gaps in their zone," Phoenix coach Kyle Walker said. "We played about 22 minutes of good basketball. The 10 minutes we didn't play very well was at the end of the third quarter and the fourth quarter." Phoenix was only 26 percent from the field on 12-of-45 shooting. The Pirates led at halftime, 20-18. "In the first half, we effectively attacked their zone defense," said Walker. "We got too much into perimeter shooting in the second half, and I think we got a little tired when we were trying to press." Sophomore wing Kat Cox led the Pirates with eight points, while junior post Kelly Meredith pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
