The Marine Board will come to Grants Pass on Aug. 9 as part of a 10-city tour to gather input for developing its "six-year plan" for future boating facilities. The plan is the Marine Board’s study of public recreational boat-access needs across the state. It helps the agency prioritize needs as money becomes available for projects. The plan is developed from public input gathered at the various meetings as well as a survey to which boaters can contribute either online or via mail. The Grants Pass meeting will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 9, a Monday, at the Josephine County Courthouse Auditorium. Advertisement A similar meeting is planned for Aug. 11 at the Coos Bay City Hall. Boaters who want to chime in on facilities but don’t want to drive to Grants Pass can do so online by taking the survey available at the Marine Board’s site at www.boatoregon.com on the Web. Surveys will be accepted through Sept. 8. Surveys also can be sent to boaters through the mail or by fax. The Marine Board recently issued a $30,000 grant to help make the Port of Brookings-Harbor more wheelchair friendly. The grant will go toward a $97,250 project that will create two new gangways for wheelchair access to the east bank of Boat Basin II. The gangways will bring the area into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The port has pledged $15,250 toward the project. A federal grant through the state Department of Land Conservation and Development covers the remaining $50,000.
