The ‘Indestructible Loo’ is here Oct 24, 2022 12:45 AM A A A crew with Grant Rider Concrete Inc. put the finishing touches Friday on installation of the Portland Loo — also known as the Indestructible Loo — a new public restroom near the bus station in Medford. [Jamie Lusch / Mail Tribune] The first of two supposedly “indestructible” public outdoor restrooms is in place near the bus depot in downtown Medford. The ”Portland-style loo“ will offer relief to weary travelers and others at the Medford bus station on Front Street. The bathroom was paid for by Rogue Valley Transportation District, with help from the city of Medford and MURA. The new stainless steel loos were developed in Portland to address the need for a public toilet that is difficult to vandalize. Open grates at the top and bottom of the loo allow you to see how many people are inside and provide constant air flow. The interior of the loo is spartan, not particularly comfortable and very drafty. The wall panels are graffiti proof, and the entire loo can be hosed down for easy cleaning. The bathroom is wheelchair accessible, and a curved steel door is located on the front side.
