Investigators from Medford police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation teamed up with Yreka police, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol to arrest Gary Dennis McCune, 53, of Reno, Nev., at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Siskiyou County Jail. He remained there Tuesday pending extradition to Oregon to face second-degree robbery charges, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. Investigators linked McCune to Monday’s robbery at the Key Bank on East Main Street. The robber gave a teller a note demanding money, then fled with an undetermined amount of cash after being in the bank roughly two minutes. The bank’s surveillance cameras malfunctioned so no photo of the robber was available, Moran said. After the robbery was reported at about 1:15 p.m. police surrounded the area, Moran said. Advertisement They didn’t find the culprit, but in a nearby alley they discovered a jacket sporting a Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball team logo. Witnesses said the robber had worn such a jacket and one person even saw him peel it off as he fled, Moran said. Detectives followed-up on leads throughout the afternoon and evening, Moran said. Tips from witnesses and informants enabled them to identify McCune as a suspect. They learned from informants that he had dyed his hair and left the area. Detectives contacted authorities in Yreka, who located McCune at the Miner’s Inn in Yreka, Moran said. A team of officers from multiple agencies arrested him there early Tuesday morning. "We have a good working relationship with Siskiyou County officials," Moran said. McCune can waive extradition and return to Oregon to face charges immediately or he can go through a process of hearings in which a judge will decide if he should be sent back to Oregon, Moran said.
