Gold Hill judge job requires no lawyer If you've ever wanted to bang a gavel and declare someone guilty or innocent, here's your chance - provided you are a registered voter in Jackson County. The city of Gold Hill is looking for a new municipal judge. For approximately one day's work, the position pays a monthly stipend of $100. City Recorder Tony Paxton says the municipal judge holds court one day a month and decides cases involving violations of city codes, licensing issues and a few traffic tickets. Paxton says no law degree or special legal knowledge is required. "Municipal judges are not required to be learned in the law," said Paxton. Paxton said only one applicant had petitioned for the position, Damian M. Idiart, who returned his packet on Wednesday. Filing deadline for the judgeship is March 7. Necessary forms can be obtained at City Hall between 8 a.m. and noon and 1 and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is (541) 855-1525. Voters will elect the new judge during the primary election on May 21. The municipal judgeship became vacant when the city's current judge, Calvin Eary, moved to Josephine County.
