Mail Tribune / Denise Baratta Wednesday Jan 4, 2017 at 4:17 PM Jan 5, 2017 at 8:44 AM Residents throughout Southern Oregon made the best of a near-record snowfall Wednesday that closed schools, knocked out power and made travel difficult. The Siskiyou Pass was closed for 17 hours because of hazardous conditions in Northern California. Many residents commented on Facebook that this was the most snow they'd ever seen at their homes — some reported up to 20 inches on their decks and cars. At the Medford airport, 8.3 inches fell in 24 hours, the second heaviest snowfall in a century. The record: 11 inches on Dec. 11, 1919.
