PRE-DESIGN ACTIVITIES   Suggestions: 1. Introduce and discuss the criteria for an effective ad. Review the Ad Design poster included in the Mail Tribune packet and the suggestions using the Munchies ad. 2. For several days, have students select and clip newspaper ads they like. Ask them to create a display of their examples for the rest of the class to view. 3. After students have collected their ads, have them share examples in small groups. Explain that they should discuss their reasons for selecting each ad. Remind students to consider the points listed in the Ad Design poster. 4. Ask students to discuss or write about their opinions of what makes a "good" or "bad" ad. 5. For each advertiser, have students brainstorm ideas about the product or service. Record ideas on butcher paper for use when they do their ads. 6. For older students, introduce, discuss and show examples of persuasive advertising techniques. 1.
