The Medford City Council will hold public hearings beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 411 West Eighth St., Medford. The council will consider two Wal-Mart appeals, one filed by Wendy Siporen and the other by Bill Mansfield. Both are appealing the decision of the Site Plan and Architectural Commission to approve the application of the Wal-Mart project at the Miles Field site. On April 2 the commission approved the application for a 206,533-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter to be built along Highway 99 at Center Drive. In addition to Siporen and Mansfield filing appeals April 14, an appeal was filed April 23 by the South Gateway Center. The third appeal is scheduled to be heard during the public hearing portion of the May 20 City Council meeting. Advertisement The council can uphold the Site Plan and Architectural Commission’s decision, or it can reverse, modify or send it back to the commission. If it is upheld, opponents can file an appeal with the state Land Use Board of Appeals. Mansfield said if the council upholds the decision, he plans to file an appeal with LUBA, just as he predicts Wal-Mart is prepared to file a LUBA appeal if the council reverses it.
