Walker, Mattson lead Ashland girls Prep roundup ASHLAND -- Vanessa Walker scored six goals, and Jessica Mattson had three goals and four steals as Ashland defeated Cottage Grove, 17-2, in a Southern League water polo contest Friday at Southern Oregon University. Ashland's boys also beat the Lions, 22-9. Elisa Jessop added three goals and Quinn Brightenburg added two to go with four assists for the Grizzlies, who have girls matches against Medford and Marist at 11 and 1 today. Dustin Asher had four goals and four steals for Ashland's boys. Adam Foley had three goals, three assists and six steals. Brad Scoles had three goals, seven steals and two assists. Jacob Salmond, Jordan McFarland, Clayton Mattson, Evan Mather and Nathan Majeski had two goals apiece for the Ashland boys, who play at noon and 2 p.m. against Medford and Marist today. Volleyball NORTH LAKE 15-16-15, BUTTE FALLS 3-18-9 -- At Silver Lake, Butte Falls was denied a Skyline A League Southern Division title-clinching victory by North Lake Friday. The Cowboys (9-3), who needed the win to lock up second place, defeated the Loggers 15-3, 16-18 and 15-9. Butte Falls (9-2) needs a home victory today against Triad Christian for the Southern Division championship and the division No. 1 seed in the Skyline A district tournament. "They served really well," Butte Falls coach Mike Harrington said."We were tight, as evidenced by the score of Game 1. I tried to tell the girls to relax. We did a little better in Game 2 but barely pulled that one out." In the third game, North Lake jumped out to a 4-2 lead before the Loggers pulled even at 4. The Cowboys scored four unanswered points and the closest the Loggers got after that was 11-9. Butte Falls' leaders in the match were sophomore Jessica Dunlap in aces (4) and assists (24), junior Elizabeth McLauchlan in kills (10) and junior Jade Torres in digs (6).
