http://www.omniture.com --> Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend May 18, 2006 County voter turnout tops 30 percent Voter turnout in Jackson County bumped up slightly on election day to 32 percent, well behind the generally lackluster turnout of 38 percent statewide and second-worst in the state. On Monday, the day before the primary election, 24 percent of the vote-by-mail ballots had been received by the Jackson County elections office. By the 8 p.m. deadline Tuesday, a total of 37,407 ballots were turned in out of a total 116,255 registered voters in the county, according to the Oregon Secretary of State's office. Turnout in Josephine County, which has less than half as many registered voters as Jackson County, was 45 percent. Clackamas County reported the lowest turnout in the state at 30 percent. Turnout was much higher in more rural counties, with the best turnout at 71 percent in Gilliam County — though that was just 913 ballots turned in out of 1,290 registered voters.
