Thurston got the leadoff runner on in all five innings but couldn’t scratch out a run against Berman, who walked three, struck out three and was aided by two double plays started from the outfield. Right fielder Jared Evans helped end the game when he caught a fly ball and then doubled off a baserunner at first base after North Medford had allowed him to take second during the play on player indifference. Earlier in the game, left fielder Mason Barone went to his knees to catch another fly ball and fired the ball to second baseman Tate Cowden for another double play. Evans also had a solid day at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Cowden was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, Berman 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI and Colton Westfall 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for North Medford (18-6, 17-2 SWC). In the pivotal fourth inning, Westfall supplied an RBI triple and Dakota Adams added a two-run single to highlight the frame. Westfall also scored in the fifth on an RBI double by Jordan Ragan. The Black Tornado will look to clinch at least a share of the SWC championship on Saturday when it plays host to the Colts (11-13, 9-10) in a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m. North Medford;121;53;—;12;12;1 Thurston;000;00;—;0;4;2 Berman and Wolff; Bates, Watson (5) and Travelstead. NORTH EUGENE 7, CRATER 2 : At Eugene, Crater managed only four hits against North Eugene starter Jake Owens to fall short in the Midwestern League matchup. Cavin Gillispie’s leadoff double in the fourth inning led to the first run of the game, with Gillispie scoring on a double play soon after for the Comets (9-15, 9-7 MWL). In the sixth, Dylan Pearce reached on a two-base error and scored on a groundout by Gunnar Asher. League-leading North Eugene (18-5, 13-3) broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning on three hits, two walks, one hit batter and one error. Marist (12-10, 10-6 MWL) vaulted into third place in the league standings. LAKEVIEW 3, ROGUE RIVER 0 : At Lakeview, Rogue River suffered its fourth straight loss to drop to 4-19 overall and 1-9 in Southern Cascade League play. Lakeview improved to 9-15 and 5-7. PROSPECT/BUTTE FALLS 14-9, HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 4-3 : At Prospect, Prospect/Butte Falls evened its District 4 record at 5-5 with the league sweep over Hosanna Christian and wrapped up its regular season at 8-10 overall. Boys Golf 5A SPECIAL DISTRICT 2 REGIONALS : At Redmond, Eagle Point qualified for the Class 5A state tournament with its fifth-place finish Tuesday in the 14-team regional tournament at Eagle Crest Resort. The 5A state tourney is Monday and Tuesday at Emerald Valley Golf & Resort in Creswell.
