Phoenix rolls past Rogue River PHOENIX Phoenix was hoping for something other than another close game, and it got it, thanks to a relentless press and the fine shooting of Jessica Prisbrey and Maria Gonzalez. The two combined for 36 points as the Pirates routed Rogue River, 65-33, Friday in Skyline Conference girls basketball. Phoenix improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 league. The four previous Skyline contests were decided by five points or less. "Weve had nothing but close games," said Phoenix coach Kyle Walker. "Our kids really needed to come out and have a good night." They did so in the first quarter, using a tough press to build a 20-7 lead. They did likewise in the third, going on a 24-2 run over a four-minute period for a 54-22 lead heading into the fourth. Prisbrey made 8 of 17 shots and scored 19 points. Gonzalez was 3-for-3 on 3-pointers, 6-for-7 from the field and tallied 17 points. "We needed Jessica and Maria to come back and score for us," said Walker. "The last couple of games, theyve had good shots but they havent been falling for them. They both came back tonight with really good shooting performances." The Pirates press helped the shooting effort, creating 22 turnovers, many of which led to layups or transition baskets. Chelsi Clark had six steals and Gonzalez five. Sutton Jackson led Phoenix with eight rebounds. Laura Lucas scored nine points for Rogue River. ROGUE RIVER (33) L. Lucas 9, Troutt 7, J.
