The bridges must be replaced due to structural deficiencies that would require significant load restrictions before the end of the decade, says Jackson County construction engineer Mike Kuntz. The first of the three bridges is located in Rogue River on West Main Street. The bridge’s replacement cost is $2.875 million. The next is East Evans Creek Road bridge near Wimer — located about 700 feet south of Queens Branch Road. Replacement cost is $2.285 million. The last of the three bridges is East Evans Creek Road bridge at milepost 13.25, about halfway between Wimer and Sams Valley. The least expensive of the three bridges, its replacement cost is estimated at $1.774 million. Funding for the bridges’ replacements will come from the Oregon Transportation Investment Act of 2003. Construction is scheduled to being in the summer of 2005. Advertisement Preliminary work has been completed, but Jackson County and Rogue River are seeking public comment before final design and detour alternatives are selected, says Kuntz. Kuntz says comments received will be used to develop the final plans. "One of the alternatives at the Wimer bridge would close the bridge for about three months and detour traffic via Minthorne, Pine Grove and Queens Branch Road," says Kuntz. The public open house is from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29 at the City of Rogue River Council Chambers, 133 Broadway.
