The right turn lane has been roughed-in since the project began, but there is still a barricade and a pile of gravel where a turn lane should be. As is, the right turn off Hillcrest is extremely sharp and during the icy winters, dangerous. There has already been at least one accident there, where a car went out of control trying to make the turn. How is it that this part of the road was not required to be finished with the rest of the project? — Duane S., Medford Thanks for the question, Duane. The East McAndrews Road extension was done by developer Noel Moore and the intersection is a city project, according to Medford public works department. The city was trying to rush to get a new intersection designed and built before the extension opened in March 2003, but the council didn’t approve the city’s proposed plan, so they were sent back to the drawing board and the deadline was missed. So other city projects took priority. Advertisement But they’re back on it, and, according to Public Works Director Cory Crebbin, a new intersection will be built in the next few years, even as soon as next summer. The mile-long road extension project connects a dead-end spur with the extended length of East McAndrews Road, which ends at Foothill Road in east Medford.
