Since You Asked: Historic plaques are part of downtown tour Monday Feb 20, 2017 at 12:01 AM On one of the downtown government buildings, there is a plaque that says, "Historic Tour 14." What tour is this referencing, and what all is on the tour? — Thomas R., Medford   "That tour is a brochure," quipped local history expert Ben Truwe. Actually, the plaques on the buildings are described in a brochure prepared by Travel Medford that lists 21 buildings in the downtown area that have historical importance. Visitors and locals can pick up a copy of the brochure at The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County or Travel Medford. The Jackson County Courthouse on Oakdale Avenue and the Carnegie Library across the street, as well as the park surrounding the library, are on the list. Porters Restaurant, which was formerly a train depot on Front Street, is another historic building that's on the tour. Also check out the First Presbyterian Church at 85 S. Holly St. The Medford Hotel on Main Street and the Grand Hotel on Front are in the brochure, as well. If you're interested in history — and who isn't, Thomas — you should grab a brochure and walk around the downtown.
