But Tuesday, the unranked Cavemen dropped their third straight Southern Oregon Conference boys basketball game when visiting Roseburg rallied in the second half for a 62-53 victory. "It’s definitely tough," said Grants Pass coach Bill Cowell about his team’s close losses in three consecutive games. "We just have to bounce back, win every game we can and see where we’re at when it’s all done." The Cavemen (11-6, 4-4 SOC), who led 30-27 at halftime, trailed by three going into the final period. Then the Indians (13-5, 7-1 SOC) converted 13 of 15 free throws in the final quarter to pull away. "We outscored them 22-18 in field goals," said Cowell, "and to go to the line six times at home even though we’re driving the ball all night, it’s a little frustrating." Advertisement Roseburg’s Seth Bauman and Steven Davis combined for 11-of-13 shooting from the line in the final period. Bauman, a 6-foot-7 senior center, paced Roseburg with 15 points and senior guard Daniel Jeremiah added 14. Grants Pass senior guard Matt Cowell led all scorers with 19 points. CRATER 52, EAGLE POINT 39 — At Central Point, Eagle Point appeared for its first SOC victory with a 25- 17 halftime lead, but Crater came out with more energy and emotion in the second half and turned the game around. The Comets (5-13, 2-6 SOC) held the Eagles to just one point in the third quarter and outscored the Eagles 35-14 after the intermission. Crater used a 13-0 run at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth to take command. Crater’s Jay Slezak scored 10 of his game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter. Drew Wilkerson tallied all nine of his points in the second half for the Comets. Wilkerson also pulled down eight rebounds. Senior wing Matt Conley had 12 points for Eagle Point (2-14, 0-8 SOC). KLAMATH UNION 67, ASHLAND 53 — At Ashland, senior post Will Sargent registered a triple-double with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots to power Klamath Union to the SOC win. The visiting Pelicans trailed 11-7 after one period and were still down by two late in the first half. But the 6-foot-8 Sargent hit a short-range jumper to tie the game 28-28 at the intermission. Klamath Union (10-7, 4-4 SOC) then used full-court and half-court pressure to go on a 20-11 run in the third period to take control. David Morris paced the Grizzlies (6-12, 2-6) with 22 points.
