North Jackson committed five errors en route to an 8-5 loss to West Albany on Sunday in a winners’ bracket contest at The Yard at Eagle Point High. Now the Royals, 2-1 in the double-elimination tournament, face a familiar foe in Ashland (2-1) today at 3:35 p.m. with a shot at the championship game on the line. West Albany, the lone undefeated team in the tournament, faces Wilsonville, a 5-1 winner over Baker County, today at 7:05 p.m. West Albany turned three hits, four walks and two costly North Jackson miscues into four first-inning runs. North Jackson used a Ricky O’Callahan two-run hit to climb within 5-3 in the fourth, but West Albany answered back with three runs of their own in the fifth to stem the tide. "After that first inning, we just couldn’t get on track," said North Jackson coach Tom Britton. "They came out and scored four runs right off the bat and kind of got us out of synch. That set the tone for the rest of the game." Chris Boyd and Casey Hedrick each had two hits to lead the Royals’ 10-hit attack.
