Flu shots will be given to anyone in any of the following categories: over age 65; over age 9 with an underlying long-term illness (heart or lung disease, metabolic disorder, kidney disease, blood disorder) or a weakened immune system; pregnant women; residents of nursing homes or other long-term care centers; age 9 to 18 who take aspirin daily for a health condition; health care workers who provide direct patient care; people who care for an infant under the age of 6 months. Flu shots will be administered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jackson County Expo Center, Padgham Pavilion; 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Ashland Senior Center, 1699 Homes Ave.; and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at White City Community Health Center, 8385 Division Road. Jackson County Health and Human Services also has 1,000 doses of nasal spray vaccine that can be given to any healthy individual between the ages of 5 and 49. (The nasal spray uses a weakened live virus that is considered unacceptable to give to people over age 50.) The FluMist spray is available at the county public health office, 1005 E. Main St., from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Flu vaccine is also recommended for children between the ages of 6 and 24 months. Parents can bring them to the county public health office during immunization hours. These children will not be immunized at the three Tuesday clinics.
