I also remember talk about a nudist film called "Garden of Eden" shown at a local drive-in to coincide with the convention. Can your sleuths find out where and when it was? — Ron, via phone You know, among the lessons we learned accommodating your query is that the phrase "nudism sleuth" is a very silly phrase to say aloud. A quick search shows that there is indeed a 1954 nudist film by that title. It also happens to be available online, but we spared ourselves a lengthy explanation to our bosses and skipped that feature presentation. That said, we did find an advertisement for the film in the July 12, 1955, Mail Tribune, showing for the following three days at the Rogue Drive-In on Crater Lake Highway. We didn't track down any further information about a nudism convention in July 1955 archives, but in the July 12, 1959, MT, there was a rather large spread about an annual Northwest Regional convention of the American Sunbathers Association at White Oak Lodge north of Trail. The article claims 500 nudists and sunbathing enthusiasts attended the clothing-optional 1959 convention in Jackson County, which had occurred since 1951, and was the largest gathering of nudists in the Northwest. That spread included (family-friendly) photos of the pool, camp area, and a photo of the coronation of King "Les" and Queen "Bev" holding a rather strategically-placed flower bouquet. The article states they were chosen on the basis of personality and devotion to the principle of nudism and suntan. The article emphasized the platonic nature of the nudist camp: "At White Oak lodge, as other reputable nudist clubs, no alcoholic beverages are allowed and rowdyism is strictly out."
