Letters, June 15 By Mail Tribune readers Jun 15, 2022 12:00 AM A A Let Rogue Retreat do its work I have been on the steering committee of Rogue Retreat’s Hope Village since 2015 and was co-volunteer coordinator for construction of the original 16 tiny houses there (I am not otherwise connected to Rogue Retreat) and have been in hundreds of meetings with Chad McComas and other Rogue Retreat officers, directors and personnel, during which no one has ever mentioned gay conversion therapy or said or done anything derogatory concerning LGBTQ people as a group or individually. I believe that the sexual orientation of LGBTQ people exists from birth and gay conversion therapy is wrong and harmful. Rogue Retreat gives a hand up to homeless people, that’s what it does, without regard to race, sex, religion, national origin or sexual orientation. By all means investigate the suggestion of a possibility of anti-gay bias, and if anything needs to be fixed, fix it, and let Rogue Retreat continue to be the leader in lifting up homeless people in Oregon. David Beale Medford See the plays before judging Despite the fact that there are three Shakespeare plays in the 2022 season, Eria Goller of Sacramento expressed a negative opinion of the play selection for 2022. There is no indication in his letter that Goller attended any of the plays. Had he seen the plays, his opinion would have been based on more than assumption and bias. It was bad enough when this uninformed opinion letter was published in the June 1 issue of Sneak Preview. To see it republished by the MT only reinforces the idea that unsubstantiated opinions are worthy of supporting and sharing. I found the three OSF plays I’ve seen in the indoor theaters to be excellent. I encourage readers to check out the plays for themselves. Elizabeth Fairchild Ashland Ashland survey We received the taxpayer-paid budget survey from the city of Ashland. This is purportedly to balance a $2 million annual budget deficit. How about the city releasing an organizational chart for 2010 and 2022 showing total FTEs, additional departments, and budget? I suspect it would be relatively easy to find $2 million in nonessential services. Give the taxpayers transparency. John and Cori Frank Ashland
