Free-throw woes haunt SOU men again in nail biter loss to Northwest College ASHLAND - Josh Bull nailed a 12-foot shot at the buzzer to give the Northwest College men's basketball team a 59-57 win over Southern Oregon University in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday. After squandering a pair of double-digit, second-half leads and with the score knotted at 57 with six seconds remaining, Northwest's Bull, a junior guard, drilled the left-handed runner. The Eagles improved to 5-8 overall and spoiled a 14-point second-half by SOU's Hamilton Barnes. Barnes, who finished with 18 points, hit four 3-pointers to help rally the Raiders from a 39-27 deficit with 17:30 remaining. "We started to get into an offensive and defensive flow in the second half," said Raider coach Brian McDermott. "But we never should have been in a position to lose on a buzzer shot." Southern Oregon, which outrebounded the Eagles 46-31 but missed 9 of 12 free throw attempts, dropped its sixth game over the past seven outings to fall to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in league play entering today's home clash with Evergreen State (4-5, 0-1). SOU senior center Jeff Tacheny registered 13 points in a reserve role.
