Two vie for Phoenix mayor Friday Oct 28, 2016 at 5:04 PM Oct 28, 2016 at 5:04 PM The following are candidates for Phoenix mayor, a two-year term. Ballots were mailed Oct. 21 and must be returned by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, to the Elections Office or 24-hour ballot drop boxes outside the libraries in Rogue River, Central Point, Ashland and Eagle Point. Chris Luz Age: Not given Occupation: Phoenix software consultant, Personalized Software of Phoenix Education: Bachelor of Science in business, University of Connecticut Political experience: Phoenix city councilor (elected in 2012), Budget Committee member, Water Commission, Urban Renewal board. Prior service as Phoenix parks commissioner, Water Rate Committee and president of the 2012 Phoenix Phestival. Top priorities: 1) Focus on my five-year Phoenix vision. Now in year two, much of the downtown blight is gone, new sidewalks, landscaping, road and environmentally conscious parking lot are installed. Phase two is the new community center and smart development on Urban Renewal downtown properties. Phase three will be smart development of homes and businesses on the east side. Thanks volunteers and staff for making this happen. 2) Maintain true balanced budgets. The philosophy of not spending more than we earn must be maintained. Every taxpayer dollar will be invested wisely. I would also like to create a more transparent government with an increase in community involvement in the future of this city.
