Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend March 18, 2006 Medford dad gets probation for abuse A Medford man will serve probation for neglecting his pre-teen children and kicking them out of the house. Scott Joseph Sicke, 51, pleaded no contest Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court to a charge of first-degree criminal mistreatment. The felony was reduced to a misdemeanor in exchange for Sicke’s plea. Sicke’s two children — ages 11 and 12 — were taken into protective custody in August after walking almost four miles from their house in the 1400 block of Angelcrest Drive to the home of a family friend. The boy and girl arrived there at about 11 p.m., police said. The children told officers that their father kicked them out of the house. The siblings said they hadn’t eaten in about 20 hours. When officers went to Sicke’s home, they found the electricity had been shut off, and there was no food in the house, which was littered with human and dog feces said Medford police Lt. Tim George. Police said they found no indication of drug use in Sicke’s home, and Sicke was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. He has served no time in jail. In addition to spending two years on probation, Sicke was sentenced Friday to 40 hours of community service. Because child welfare cases are confidential, updated information on the status of Sicke’s children was not available.
